Twisted Meanings
It is clear that there are believers seeking to ‘own’ enlightenment in the same way they seek to own evolution, or is it to disown evolution?
The enlightenment, a cosmic “word label”, is about knowledge of what exists. It includes behavior and response, thinking and feeling, in contrast to what is believed—confused as knowing. We can know what belief is, but what believing believes is not knowledge. For the believer, what they believe is ‘knowledge’, which is also embraced as ‘truth’. The twisted, who are doing the twisting of meaning, translates the intended rational meaning of enlightenment in order to accommodate their belief in the Divine.
The psychological character of this distortion is understandable when we see that most humans seek to rationalize and decorate the impartial reality of life into what is wished or wanted. This is driven by our having to witness and experience some of the more barren and cruel characteristics of life—such as the unconscious killing and eating process that exists throughout the animal kingdom. There is much in our behavior that we decorate to make it more acceptable and pleasant.
