The Privilege of Being Bored

Another phase on the trail towards death—two more pieces of paper.

As I watch from my ‘secure box of living‘ I see a pause in action—writing while the present continues to reveal itself lost. The Soul gravitates down to the basics of oneself. I take hold of it and know there is more to come.

The force of policing now seems to quell the continuous distortion and dysfunction of the complaint that never seems to be resolved by those who can and do ignore the pain of others—”not on their own skin”.

In this time of shallow feeding, now sinking into needing, we tumble from comfort to doubt in the emptiness of purpose beyond tomorrow’s uncertainty. Beneath it lay the knowledge that we are all in jeopardy, not in spiritual dreams, but more so in spiritual reality, where we have lost touch with it in the moments of our daily living.

So what does this mean?

“I’m bored”, He said.

“Me too”, Comes the honest response. In the vision of knowing that it is something we have to reach for everyday, with the expectation of trying, so as not to forget that the opportunity in human living is to reach beyond eating’s gratification and pleasure.

It is not spiritual success we reach for, but spiritual awareness of our having to do the reaching.

It’s not the success, it’s the quest.

Then we see awareness and respect spread throughout the earth as the common need on a pathway to knowing—respecting and liking those on the same road .

But what of those who are not searching beyond security? Refusing to reach beyond animal appetites, beyond self indulgent feelings?

To be bored is the opportunity to reach for something presently beyond one’s ego appetite—spirit’s acting to solve the mystery of how to give the life-spirit more meaning.

I want to remember Toni Morrison’s quote: “The purpose of art is to enable uncertainty.”

Another blessing is to have the time away from the struggle of life to be bored.
